Postponement of the Olympic Games to July 23, 2021
The organizers of the "Tokyo 2020" Olympics agreed with the International Olympic Committee to postpone the Olympic and Paralympic Games, which was due to be hosted by the Japanese capital next summer, due to the global epidemic of the Coronavirus.
The Games were scheduled to open on July 24, but the agreement stipulates that the Olympics will begin on
Friday, July 23, 2021, and ends on Sunday, August 8
"I have proposed a one-year delay, and President (International Olympic Committee) Thomas Bach has responded with 100 percent approval," Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said of the Olympic Games.
The name of the course will remain "Tokyo 2020" although it will take place in 2021.
"In the current circumstances and based on the information provided by the World Health Organization today, the President of the International Olympic Committee and the Prime Minister of Japan concluded that the date of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo should be changed beyond 2020, to protect the health of athletes and all Involved in the Olympic Games and the international community.
